DAY 104 – July 13 2013

Today is my second work day in a row.  I am waiting on a text to confirm where I am going.  I will give them ’til 2pm and then call Signature Staff, I was given the on duty co-ordinators number to call.  I think I am working at the Novotel Palm Cove.

Astrid has Ballet this morning, it goes for 1/2 hour and parents aren’t allowed in.  Simon takes her.   I need some new black shoes – 2 shoes I cannot wear my boots again like last night,  they are comfy enough but so hot.  Jeni needs to get a script and go to the chemist so she takes me to the DFO where Rivers is – I find thier shoes so comfy.  Get an fuggly pair for $18.  The one at the top is how they came, all silver studded, the one on the right I have used black nail polish on to tone them down a lot! Then stop at Splish Splash outlet and cannot resist the cutest bikinis for Charlotte and Lily.  Lily is in love with Astrid’s ones with the flowers on them so I just have to get them for her and Charlotte love frilly girly ones too.  It is just a pity the bigger you get the less girly the bathers tend to be.  new bikinis

We pop into the Chemist and it is nearly 12pm by the time we get home.  Astrid has rollerskating at 1pm and the girls Steve and Simon are going with her.  Jeni and I are staying home to do washing and I need to tidy up the mess our room has become, all the clothes are everywhere – I find it a stressful way to live now.  So I spend a good hour cleaning and washing, hanging etc.  It is 2.30pm when Jeni reminds me I have had no text.  So I call and leave a message.  Fortunately called back quickly and yes all good Novotel, directions received 5pm start.  3.15 pm, can I possible start earlier like ASAP.  Thank goodness the tidy up is finished, Jeni is going to hang out the last load and I am getting dressed and made up to head off.

A stop for petrol and I am there by 4pm.  A Bastille Day function for 120 pax.  It is a little tense and disorganised – just a function like any other only 4 of the wait staff are french (cool).  I get to play bar girl and set up and run the cash bar.  – Fun.  The function concludes at midnight and I am beat.  Only now we have to pack down and I have to cash off.  All sorted and out by 1am.  No break, no food – so trademark large hotel hospitality.  Poor guy running the function was at work from 9am and I left at 1am he was still putting the bar sales through.  It was a really fun evening and all the guests and staff were just so lovely.  They had a singer – she did both French and English songs and some great dance music at the end.  All in all a lovely evening and lots of happy people.  I even had one couple try and book me to work at their wedding reception on the 28th of February.  I gave them my number and said to give me a call 6 weeks before to check if we are still in Cairns.

I got home abour 1.30am and Jeni was up waiting for me – bless.  She didn’t want me to come home to a dark house.  She did not realise this is standard.  But I did get the low down on the others evening and it sounded fun.

Lily and Steve skate

After ballet, Astrid has Skating lessons which Lily and Charlotte are keen to join.  Apparently Simon, and Steve both skated along with the girls.  Simon had a spectacular save skating over a

skating funcrashed Astrid but was then unable to right himself and had a tumble, giving himself a black eye.  Steve’s ankles are a bit bruised as the skates didn’t fit and Lily was a bit tired and emotional about the whole thing (if only she would get a full nights sleep she would be much better off).  So Astrid and Charlotte had a great time.  Everyone fell over a bit and sore bottoms were the order of the day.  They came home and had dinner, a bath and everyone went to bed fairly early. Simon took these photos for me – thanks Simon.

The girls loved the slushies at the skating ring.
